For almost 20 years I have been invited to and fished the area. I know the area quite well because I have a friend who has farming property bordering on the upper reaches of the dam. My recollection of the area, is that the water is quite murky and brown and that the visibility is not very good. This was the reason for me not taking up some invites to this area.
In 2021 I accepted an invite to do a presentation and fish a competition a few kilometers below the dam wall. I was surprised at what the area had to offer. Again in 2022 I returned to guide in the same competition and was stunned by the versatility and variety that the waters offered. Not only did we land 843 fish in one and half days, but the power of these yellowfish is second to none! In my humble opinion, the strongest in the World!
I then took a trip on the dam for further investigation and was surprised by the amount of yellowfish patrolling the edges of islands and inlets.

Our guests will be accomodated in a luxury lodge on the banks of the Orange River. Two guests will share a room with their own en suite bathroom. The lodge, Winterland, is situated about 30km downstream from the dam wall on a private farm. Guests fishing with Africa First on this property have exclusive use of this magnificent section of the river and our valued clients can expect fishing on another level.
